I have been working in Virginia State Parks in some capacity since 2009. I began with the Youth Conservation Corps while I was in high school and continued the program for a few summers in college. I never knew that participating in that wonderful program would lead me to having a career with State Parks as Office Manager at Staunton River Battlefield State Park. After my summers with the Youth Conservation Corps, I continued with Virginia State Parks as a Park Ranger Intern. After graduating from Virginia Tech in 2015 with a B.S. in Natural Resources Conservation, I worked in maintenance, interpretation, and administration in various Virginia State Parks before taking on the position I’m in now. I have had the opportunity to work at James River, Powhatan, Pocahontas, Twin Lakes, Staunton River, Sky Meadows, and Natural Tunnel. I am very grateful for the beautiful places I’ve been able to call my workplace, even though many days really don’t feel like work!

When I’m not working, I’m usually out and about in the parks kayaking, playing disc golf, or walking my dogs with my husband, who also works for Virginia State Parks. I also enjoy spending time with horses, whether I’m riding my own pony or visiting horses wherever I can find them!

I want people to love the parks as much as I do and I hope to share my experiences and what our parks have to offer to get people outdoors. Whether that’s a short drive to your local State Park to fish or a weekend camping trip on the other side of the state, there are numerous ways to enjoy Virginia State Parks! I am relatively new to the Halifax County area, but I plan to continue my exploration of Staunton River Battlefield and the surrounding communities to share my stories with you.
